[CH.50] Summer Beach Recreation (Part 5)
We drove for about 30 minutes with Kuhou-san on board and arrived at the Hamayama Seaside Beach located on the bay coast. It was early July, and the temperature was set to reach a scorching level, so the place was crowded with visitors.
Anticipating this, the large-scale facility had a considerable number of parking spaces. Although there was some mild traffic, finding a parking spot was relatively easy.
It was an impressive leisure facility indeed. Looking towards the sea, there was a vast beach, and various water sports were being actively pursued. Normally, a regular beach would be overcrowded, but with so much space, there was room to spare.
Adjacent to the changing rooms and reception area was a restaurant. Next to it, there was a high-rise hotel where guests who had enjoyed the day could also stay overnight.
It seemed like there were plenty of activities besides just the beach. If this had existed during my student days, I would have definitely come here with friends.
"We're heading there right away!" Manager shouted, and the three of us responded enthusiastically.
I had to prepare myself mentally, no matter what swimsuits the others were wearing. The time for the showdown had come!
"How did it come to this?"
"Hey, what's wrong, Hanamura-san?"
Kuhou-san responded with a smile, which was a sight to behold, cute, and heartwarming. However, what I was seeking at the moment wasn't that.
Why were we now in a place that felt like an octopus's den?
"During the summer, nothing beats a well-air-conditioned room."
"I totally agree! Enjoying a cold beer while watching your favorite TV show is the best, right?"
My boss and coworker were talking like middle-aged men, but you know what? I get it. I'm an indoorsy type too, so that's actually true.
We were in the Hamayama Seaside Hotel's Resting Room. The room had glass windows, providing a view of the beach from the high floors. Inside, the air conditioning was working well, and there were outlets for charging, creating a comfortable environment for working and conversation.
In simple terms, it was like a beach-themed internet café. It was a bit pricey, costing several hundred yen per hour, but it was quite popular among visitors.
The three of us, instead of going to the beach, took out our electronic devices and immediately started working on our creative projects.
We had mentioned having a workshop, but I didn't expect it to start in the middle of the day.
Frustration began to creep in as I watched them in their swimsuits. It might be better than making a complete fool of myself, but it was disappointing.
And on top of that...
"Manager, you haven't made any progress at all."
"It's my input time right now!"
"So, you're watching a romantic comedy anime."
Of course, this room had Wi-Fi and a fast internet connection, so you could stream videos as much as you wanted. The manager had been watching anime without moving her hands.
"This season has so many precious anime! Hanamura-kun, you should check them out too."
"Yeah, they're interesting, aren't they? This show."
"I admire this author almost as much as Sensei. I wonder what kind of person they are. Probably a very loving one."
I've met that Sensei and even exchanged signed copies. I feel like I've met all the famous authors based in the Kanto region who've released books in the last two or three years. This person writes great novels, but their drinking habits are terrible. I wonder about the love part...
"But if we just watch anime, the whole day will pass."
"I know, but that girl hasn't written anything either."
The manager's gaze was fixed on Nishina-san, who was reading a light novel.
"What are you doing, Nishina-san?"
"Oh, you surprised me!"
It seemed like I had startled her, maybe because she was deeply engrossed in her reading. She looked cute even when surprised... being beautiful is really something.
I glanced at the light novel Nishina-san was holding, and my cheeks twitched.
"I'm currently studying 'The Court Slow Life' by Okome Takashi-sensei because I'm in a bit of a slump. It's getting an anime adaptation, you know? I wonder when that's going to happen."
There hasn't been much information about that yet, so I'm curious too.
"So, you're in a bit of a slump?"
"Yeah, it feels like I'm running out of ideas... Ah, I wish some divine inspiration would come to me! Oh, Exiled God of Desperation!"
"That's a terrible god you're calling upon."
If she's struggling, I can't help but want to give her some advice, even though I don't want to reveal my true identity. I want to see hardworking people succeed.
"Give me a romantic comedy revelation!"
The manager suddenly chimed in, but I'll just leave that alone for now. More importantly...
"Hinata-chan, you're working really hard, aren't you?"
Yeah, that's right. Kuhou-san had been silently focused on her writing, swiping on her phone without joining the conversation. She had incredible concentration, and it made it a bit difficult to approach her.
"She was writing late into the night yesterday."
"She must be really on a roll."
I know that I can focus well when I'm in the groove too. Kuhou-san seems to be in a similar zone, and I believe that's when the best works are created.
"All right, with Hinata doing her best and me too, I'm going to give it my all!"
"Yes, I'll write too!"
Inspired by Kuhou-san, both the manager and Nishina-san began writing as well. It truly felt like we were on a writing retreat. I hope someone among us produces something great and it gets read by a lot of people.
And then...
"What should I do?"
"Hanamura-kun."
"Yes?"
The manager called my name.
"What are you going to do?"
"Well... I'm not sure."
"Maybe you should try picking up someone."
"Haha, if only it were that easy to change my personality. Um... I think I might go sightseeing."
"...I see. I'll contact you later when I'm free."
"Understood. Well then, enjoy your writing."
"...Also, I'll contact you around evening, so make sure to put on your swimsuit and come to the beach. That's what I meant."
Wait, what does that mean?!
