[CH.33] After that

In the evening, in a room specially set up for streaming at the agency.

Alice wore a witch's robe and a wizard's hat, sitting in front of the camera, waving greetings to the few dozen viewers.

"Hello, everyone! I'm Alice, the magical girl of love and justice~ This year's costume is witch-themed, specially prepared for all of you."

The screen was filled with messages from Alice's fans.

Most magical girl streams were Q&A sessions, but tonight, Alice didn't feel like interacting with her viewers.

"Today's stream is all about playing games, and you can enter the draw for prizes with a subscription."

Almost instantly, the queue was full. The chat was filled with messages like, "Alice is so cute," and requests for her to sing.

"I'm feeling a bit under the weather today. How about I sing for you all next week?"

Using this excuse, Alice proceeded to focus on her game seriously.

When she played games, she was highly concentrated, with almost all of her attention on the gameplay and visuals, leaving little room for other thoughts.

In the afternoon, Han Huayang and his senior went to have ramen together, and during the entire meal, neither of them spoke. After they finished eating, his senior made up a random excuse and left.

Alice felt that as a guy, she was quite dense. Han Huayang could have been more proactive—like diving into his senior's arms and pleading for her to stay a little longer.

"Ah, I must be really boring..."

Suddenly, an ice arrow shot through the game, and Alice's game screen instantly turned gray. The enemy's marksman was dancing and taunting over Alice's character's body.

Her team's jungler typed in the chat: "Alice-chan, don't be angry. I'll help you get revenge."

He then used his flash to dash over the wall, giving the enemy marksman both his red and blue buffs.

Despite the jungler's repeated sacrifices, Alice, relying on her excellent skills and game sense, led the team to a hard-fought victory. When the enemy's base exploded, the chat room was filled with comments about how strong Alice was.

Alice thanked the viewers for their small gifts and maintained a suitable smile. Alice had the [Idol: 5] attribute, and when facing her viewers, she naturally displayed her most adorable and beautiful side.

"We still have some time left in the stream, so let's do a viewer Q&A. Please send in your questions, and I'll answer the two questions with the most mentions in the chat."

The screen was soon flooded with a barrage of messages. The most frequently asked question was, "Alice-chan, do you have a boyfriend?"

"I don't have a boyfriend, so there's still a chance for all of you."

Another popular question was, "What kind of guys does Alice-chan like?"

"I like the gentle and clingy type, someone who I can take care of."

The chat was flooded with messages about being taken care of by Alice, but Alice was no longer in the mood to interact with the viewers.

"Magical Girl of love and justice, Alice, using magic and love to heal hearts! Let's meet again next week."

After delivering her sign-off line, Alice turned off the streaming software.

"Phew... it's finally over..."

Alice took off her wizard hat and lay her head on the table. Her warm cheeks pressed against the cool surface, and she felt lightheaded.

As Alice, she was acutely aware of her feelings for her senior. Every time she thought of her senior, various emotions welled up inside her. Alice was even willing to give up everything for her senior; she had that level of determination.

However, Han Huayang was much more restrained when it came to these feelings. He couldn't fully embrace his feelings for his senior; he was bound by their original sibling-like relationship, making it particularly challenging to accept his newfound romantic feelings.

During their meal, Han Huayang hadn't been able to strike up a conversation with Li Meiting.

"Ugh... I really wish I could be held by my senior..."

"Hey, what did you just say?"

Kate suddenly appeared next to Alice, elegantly licking her paw and standing with her tail erect, looking up at Alice.

"Boss, where have you been these past few days? Why have you become so small?"

The original Kate, with her tail included, was of moderate size. Now, however, she was only the size of a human palm. Miniature Kate looked like a toy plushie, completely devoid of her former imposing aura. Alice was on the verge of squishing the cat's head.

"It's better if you don't ask. I don't want to answer that question—spirits need to maintain their mystery. Otherwise, they'd be meeting with you guys every day."

Actually, Kate had been resting in the interstitial space between worlds these past few days, as her battle with Li Meiting had consumed a significant portion of her essence. She found it challenging to sustain her physical presence in the human world.

But Kate hadn't been completely idle during this time, she had attended the weekly spirit meetings on Friday nights.

Kate had only signed contracts with two magical girls, whereas even the healing-type spirit Phil had signed with three magical girls. Kate really didn't enjoy attending these meetings, which were mostly about boasting and discussing everyday matters—completely unnecessary in her opinion.

As the spirit with the fewest contracts, Kate was often ridiculed by the other spirits during these meetings. It was quite troublesome.

However, this time, the weekly meeting included a mandatory request from the Grand Spirit Nicole for all active spirits to attend, citing important matters to discuss.

"Why is it only you here? Where did Meiting go?"

"Who knows, can't you contact her directly?"

"Meiting is in a place without reflections, I can't find her."

"Then she's probably out patrolling the streets..."

Although Alice said this, her senior had most likely gone to the small platform on the television tower. That place had no reflective surfaces and was far from the ground lights, making it impossible for Kate to find her.

"Hurry up and call her back, things aren't looking good lately."

"What's happened?"

"The headquarter is sending people for an inspection. They're coming tomorrow morning, so we need to be fully prepared tonight. You should call Meiting right away, there's no need to deal with invasions at this time."

The Magical Girl Headquarter conducted quarterly assessments of various agencies' performances and used them to update the rankings. Occasionally, the headquarter would also conduct random audits to ensure that humans, in their role as magical girls, were not being excessively exploited by spirits.

After all, magical girls were essentially employees, and spirits were their bosses. Despite most spirits refusing to lie and the contract magic limiting their actions, there were still cases of magical girls being excessively controlled by spirits.

Before the formation of the headquarter, some spirits had used the Three Regulations to control magical girls forcibly. The Three Regulations were a means for spirits to restrict human behavior and were used to threaten, coerce, or induce magical girls to provide additional souls to the spirit.

Once the new souls were obtained, the spirit would add new clauses to the contract, and then obtain more souls from the magical girl, continuing to add clauses...

This process would repeat several times, with more and more clauses restricting the magical girl's every action. The poor girl would become nothing more than a money-making tool in the hands of the spirit.

Since the formation of the headquarter, they had conducted audits on all spirits and expelled those who had used the Three Regulations to torment magical girls. There hadn't been any cases of magical girls being subjected to the Three Regulations since then.

Kate was quite friendly with her two magical girls and had never threatened them to do specific things. Technically, she had no reason to worry about the headquarter's inspection.

However, the league also questioned magical girls about their salary and well-being, as spirits were only supposed to form contracts with girls. Kate was the first spirit to turn a guy into a magical girl, all because she believed Li Meiting's outrageous claims...

If this information became known to other spirits, Kate, the top student of the Spirit Academy, would never be able to face her old classmates again.
