[CH.10] Welcome Party (Part 1)
"All right, let's celebrate Hanamura-kun's welcome. Cheers!"
"Cheers!"
The sound of glasses clinking together echoed in the private room.
On my third day at Hamayama Sales Office, my welcome party was held. It seemed they often used this nearby izakaya with private rooms.
Whenever someone joined the company, they would welcome them, and when someone left, they would hold a farewell party. While this was relatively common, I had prepared myself for the possibility that there might not be a welcome party since it was an all-female office.
The fact that they were holding one meant I was somewhat welcomed, I suppose. However, with four people in a private room, whether I looked to the front or the side, they were all exceptionally beautiful women... It was a treat for the eyes, but I didn't know where to focus my attention.
"Manager, can I get another beer? Kuhou-san, is another oolong tea okay for you?"
"That's fine."
"I-I'm sorry."
If I didn't know where to focus my attention, I should focus on the glasses! I had already checked for empty glasses in advance and signaled the waiter to take our orders.
I was smart to choose a seat near the aisle. I had convinced them with excuses like wanting to be closer to the restroom, as there was a chance they would have seated me at the head of the table. Being pushed into the back would have made it difficult for me to move.
The worst scenario would be if the three women were having a great time while I, the only guy, was isolated in my corner seat.
But if I sit near the aisle, I can always use the excuse of needing to go to the restroom and escape if things get awkward.
Hehehe, perfect.
Now... any topic will do.
Honestly, I was looking forward to hearing what kind of conversation these women would have. I might even use this conversation as material for a girls' night out-themed story.
"Basically, getting exiled from a guild or organization is a common theme in high fantasy, right? It's the main premise."
"Yes, and it's about how the protagonist distinguishes themselves from other works with their abilities. Hmm... I wonder if there's anything unique. They can't use magic, but maybe they rely on their physical strength?"
"There are plenty of stories like that. Using a one-shot gimmick makes it difficult to sustain a series, so it's better to have something with versatility."
"Lately, there was a trend of single-element breakthroughs, right? Fire, water, wind, earth, darkness, and light."
"I've read all the top-ranking ones, but they all use those elements, don't they?"
"How about creating a new element, for example..."
What is this conversation?
It's different from what I imagined a girls' night out conversation would be like.
